X is expanding its “save-it-for-later” experience with the rollout of a brand-new History tab that combines bookmarks, likes, videos, and articles into a single private hub.
The feature is currently launching on iOS, with X’s Head of Product, Nikita Bier, describing it as a more efficient way for users to revisit content they want to finish reading or watching later.
With the update, the old Bookmarks section in X’s side menu has been renamed History. Inside, users will now find four separate tabs:
- Bookmarks — manually saved posts
- Likes — posts users have liked
- Videos — clips users watched on X
- Articles — long-form posts and written content viewed on the platform
Unlike traditional bookmarks, the Videos and Articles sections are automatically populated based on viewing activity, turning X into something closer to a personalized content archive.
Importantly, the History section remains completely private and visible only to the account owner.
The new feature makes X feel increasingly similar to a web browser, where users can return to previously viewed content without needing to explicitly save every item. It also consolidates features that were previously scattered across different sections of the app, streamlining content discovery and retrieval.
X’s push into long-form content also appears to be a major reason behind the change. The company has been actively promoting articles and extended posts as a way for creators, publishers, and businesses to share more detailed updates beyond the platform’s standard 280-character limit.
By automatically tracking articles users interact with, X is effectively building a personalized news-reading experience directly inside the app.
The move comes at a time when publishers are struggling with declining referral traffic from platforms like Facebook and Google, largely due to algorithm changes and AI-driven search experiences that keep users from clicking external links.
X appears to be positioning itself as an alternative publishing platform where creators can post directly, maintain visibility, and keep audiences engaged without relying on outside traffic sources.
